The Hawaiian Royale

My distaste for Los Angeles is well known, but I must give a note of sincere respect to Rutts Cafe in Culver City. Introduced to me by graphic novel/comic purveyor David "Freshy" Pifer of Secret Headquarters fame, the self-billed "Finest Hawaiian Cafe since 1976" is indeed a quality representation of the Aloha spirit and fare. Particularly strong are its breakfast offerings paired with Hawaiian coffee. On my last venture there I enjoyed the Original Hawaiian Royale - a heaping scrambled dish of rice, eggs, Portuguese sausage and Chinese BBQ. The casual ambiance both inside the vintage wood-paneled restaurant and the outside tables, makes a wonderful antidote to the rest of this artificially-veneered, gas-sucking, palm tree and concrete wasteland regretfully named the City of Angels.
